[Rhodes22-list] Hit by a car, can my rhodes be saved?

Alex,
While there is magic in our Rhodes 22, your damaged one included, I must say that the O'Day sailboats, which I have sailed many models of, is a very well built boat that can be an excellent investment in sailing time and pleasure. I had a 19' O'Day Mariner many years ago, and an O'Day 222 just before I became a Rhoadie. For a potential owner, either the O'Day or the R22 valuation is entirely dependent on the condition of hull, deck (important as it can have core problems), sails, onboard equipment, on and on. I think it would good to develop a checklist to use when you evaluate any of those you want to scope out.
I would deal with your Rhodes as the first priority, take it step by step with a repair estimate. A good repair facility can evaluate the extent of cost and time factors and you can decide if you even need to look for another boat.
I would suggest knowing a local and experienced sailor who can help as an advisor. You can see that our Rhoadie fleet can be very helpful from a distance, but a local skipper/owner can see and evaluate subtle questions of quality so much better than we ever could. The urge to make hasty decisions can be expensive and disappointing, so don't jump too fast! You might consider talking to one us on the phone as you have questions - sometimes much more effective than the emails. I can be reached at 404 295-7777, so leave a voicemail if I cannot answer your call.
