Welcome and thanks for teaching me a new word.  I think gammered must mean the same thing as croned :).
 
As usual Art's advice is completely accurate.  It's not very helpful but it is accurate.  By the way Art I haven't heard anything from you on our annual Army-Navy wager.  Could it be because Army finally has a team and Navy actually lost to the Air Farce?  If you don't come to the boat show you can't collect on last year's bet.
 
Anyway Cody, you pull on the sheet to unroll the jib and you pull on the furling line to roll the jib back in.  If the jib is all the way out and you don't have a little furling line wrapped a few times around the drum, you won't be able to turn the drum to roll the jib back in.  Been there done that.  You can't just go up to the drum and start turning it because your jib and furling line will turn in the same direction.  Pardon me if I'm insulting your intelligence but my intelligence wasn't insulted when I tried it.  You can gather your jib and walk around your headstay with it a few times until your furling line is wrapped around the drum or you can untie the stopper knot at the end of your furling line, pull it loose, wrap it around the drum and re-run it back into its proper position.  I won't insult your intelligence by telling you which way is easier but let me know because I thought both ways were a pain.
 
The good news is that 1986 Rhodes were the fastest ever made.

You will get used to the sailing 'systems' as you gain time and experience on the boat, apparently an '86.  Tell us more about the boat, and about you and your sailing experience in an email.  Why did you hide for a year?  We are not such a bad bunch, afterall. 

What furler type do you have, why not attach one or more pictures.  In general, the furler is never automatic, and operates through the opposing action of the furling line and the leeward sheet.  Starting with a properly 'wound' headsail, you will deploy the sail by pulling out on the appropriate sheet, at the same time allowing the furling line to wrap snugly around the drum.  Shortening or dousing the headsail is the opposite action - you pull the furling line from the drum, slowly releasing the sail so that it can wrap around itself (and around the forestay).  Digest this, and ask more, and we can focus our attention to help you step by step.
