Cody,

After raising the mast, you should have only the six side stays secured (2 
outers, 2 forward lowers & 2 aft lowers).  At this point, I attach the 
bowstay, fixing the furling jib in place.  Next, the rear stays are attached 
(usually third hole from bottom on the adjuster) and finally they are 
tensioned.
