[Rhodes22-list] Hull Indention

Bill,

An ex-lister and chemical/mechanical engineer, Roger Pihlaja wrote a post some years ago talking about this subject.
Roger always over-engineered everything, including his trailer. The annotated pics of his trailer are still on the owner's Rhodes22.org website.
I do not have time right now or memort of the procedure to research the archives, but Roger's suggestion was that too much of the boat's weight was being supported
by the bunks and not enough by the keel. His procedure was something to the effect of putting the boat on the trailer, dropping the center keel roller.
Bring the keel roller back up snug against the keel, lock it down and mark it's position. Then raise the boat up off of the trailer enough to clear
the roller and raise the roller another 3/4 inch.

If someone could post how to search the archives (again) I could find his post.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Hull Indention

The hull of our 1980 Rhodes is being indented while on the trailer. I don't know the history of the boat or the trailer, but am guessing the trailer is the original, and looks like someone has recently reworked it. The hull is being pushed in near the front support. While difficult to measure the indention it seems to vary from 3/16" to nearly a 1/2". Yesterday I spent an hour moving the boat forwards and backwards on the trailer to find a spot that reduced the denting. While moving the boat back on the trailer eventually did reduce the denting, the boat was too far back and caused too much swaying while on the road. The support boards look to be pressure treated 2x4s. Is the the typical size? I was thinking of redoing them with wider material (2x10 ?) to spread the load. Any thoughts?
