[Rhodes22-list] Aside from the hurricaine...

Hey Ron,
I've got one of those transom mounted fishfinder/depth gauges. It
is a humming bird and cost under $100 5 years ago. It is great, accurate
and shows all the fish even when a seal went under the boat it showed up as
a big fish. I've spotted wrecks and was able to judge the composition of
the bottom with some practice. It also tells the water temperature and the
charge on the batteries too. A chart plotter would be nice, but I still
enjoy the old fashioned triangulation, paper charts and DR. After 5 weeks
in Desolation sound this summer I could only find fault with the location on
the transom because a couple of times we would go from a couple hundred feet
to 3 feet in a boat length.

Do any of you-all Rhodies like to fish from your boat? And if so have you
put a fishfinder on your Rhodes? We are thinking of getting a fishfinder
chart plotter combination. Some of these have an "over the transom"
transponder - which seems like an interesting alternative to a thru-hull
mount. Has anyone used one of these - do you recommend them? Basically any
information on the topic of this equipment would be helpful for thinking
about fishing instead of hurricaines.
