Joe,
I trailer quite a lot and am on my second Triad trailer, both of them single axle. A lot depends on the quality of the trailer but if you have a recent, decent trailer you should be OK. I have the bow stop all the way forward on my current (4 yr old) trailer and when I pull the boat out it should be 4-7 inches from the bow stop. As long as it is in that range I can trailer with no swaying even though I leave the rudder and outboard on the transom. Trailering is an art, not a science so all I can say is that practice makes it easier.
I always use the extendable tongue (make sure you use chocks) and if you do back off the end of the ramp I have attached pictures of my preferred method for retrieving the trailer.

> Soon, I will use my Triad trailer for the first time. I'm moving my boat from northern North Carolina to southeastern Pennsylvania. (and ne'er the twain shall meet) Of course, I helped Elton in the launch last year; but it was ninety-five (f-ing) degrees, I am prone to heat stroke, and my blood-sugar was very low. Then, I was not too concerned with the workings of the trailer. Now, I am.
