I guesstimated my '87 @ 4,000# w boat, trailer & gear. Minimum tow  
vehicle should have a 5,000# tow rating allowing a safety margin. My  
'97 Blazer @ 5,500# was adequate for my 20 mile twice annual towing,  
although the 3 liter V6 struggled a bit on hills.
