[Rhodes22-list] boat weight / Lift Size / Trailer Bunks

Chris--

I once had some "silk jamies," but I outgrew them. Literally (not psychologically). I think I'll go find the flannel ones: it's chilly here today.

In my previous message I meant to say that the cost difference between a 5k and a 10k lift wasn't all that much when considered as a percentage of the total cost of installing the lift.

It is 2 am in the morning for you Peter. And I know you are reading this
since you are up in your silk jamies looking out the back window at where
Aeolia is sleeping. Congrats!

I put in a 10k lift. The additional lifting power isn't to handle my R22 or
with any expectation of acquiring a larger boat, but in the interest of the
resale value of my house in some future decade. Very future, I hope!

Aeolia, my gorgeous new R22, arrived Wednesday and I couldn't be happier.
More on that in a later message.

But here's the point: I was expecting to simply adjust the lift bunks for
the R22, but it quickly became clear that wouldn't work. Since I also bought
the Triad trailer made expressly for the R22, my lift installer was able to
see the bunk configuration needed. He made measurements of the trailer bunks
so that Rick Massell at Deco Boat Lifts can construct something expressly
for the R22. I've emailed Rick photos, both of the trailer and of Aeolia on
it.

(I'm sending the list some photos in a second message with this subject
line.)

No, I haven't dared ask what this will cost. Worse, it also "quickly became
clear" that my dock + lift configuration isn't well-suited to briefly
docking the boat--as, for example, when the crew forgot the rum.

It's pitch dark now, I can't see Aeolia, but she's still a joy. I want to
send profound & abundant

THANX! to all the Rhodies who inspired me to join them. (You know who you
are!!)

Peter

I have my boat on a 4000 lb Shore Station lift, and it does fine.  When it
was initially installed, the dealer mistakenly delivered a 3000 lb lift and
it really struggled to get the boat out of the water.

We are looking at a new vehicle to tow our 1987 Rhodes 22. We have a 1992
Trailmaster single axle trailer that we have used for several years with our
2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. We will need the tounge weight and pulling weight to
be sure a new vehicle is capable of towing our Rhodes. Problem #2 is the
Rhodes' weight to determine what lift size. Our current lift was purchased
used and we have very little information on the lift capacity. The lift will
needs a new cable and possible clutch adjustment. As we crank up our boat
there is s loud "clunk" at it looks like the boat drops down a short
distance. We continue turning the wheel and the boat eventually lifts
completely out of the water satisfactorly. We have information the state the
boat "displacement" is 3,300# and another reference of 3,700#. We don't know
the calculation of displacement to physical weight. Any advise is
appreciated.
