So is mine.  Clean, simple, and very effective.
When my cap broke a few seasons ago, I repaired the cap, which is fiberglass, and reused the rubber gasket that came with the boat.
No mess, and no water seeping through.

No silicone or other sealant. My gasket is EPDM black rubber.

I had  spent  $850.  on a custom in the water Sunforger cover which  is  
now on my boat but she's on stands unfortunately in Mill  Basin
at a different yard which allows me access all winter at any  time  
during daylight hours.

My CB gasket basically cracked  after 2yrs of use , mainly due to the  
flange and cap being so uneven  and worn down.
I had already added G 10 Garolite to the sides of my trunk  back in  
2005 after fixing the
 corrupted cement which made movement  of my  
board  impossible.

After my second season of sailing this boat (2009) I had run  aground  
and pulled out the board to see if there was any  damage.  At that  
point I SHOULD HAVE
spent the time and  money to rebuild the flange and cap edges but I got  
lazy and  complacent.  I did fix the front of the cap adding a few  
fastener holes a short piece of Garolite to do this.

But when I  discovered my bilge filled with water after a totally dry    
uneventful summer, I knew my luck had run out and fortunately i had  
already had bought  a sheet  of 1/4"  48x48"  G10  Garolite.
I made a template out of some clear acetate sheets I had in my 
 office  
use for Kodalith making back in the 90s for titles in multi  media.  
But ultimately a simple 1/8 thick art board would be  easier to
use as the best material for the template.

I cut out the  garolite with a fine tooth jig saw blade and cut the  
fastener holes  using a drill press to assure the most accurate holes.    
Yesterday the temps in the NYC metro area almost hit 65F and I laid  in  
the
two sections of the flange with thickened epoxy.  The  sheet is  
expensive at around $156.  but is not long enough to  do the entire  
57inches .  The next size up in sheets was well  over $200. so I opted  
to cut
two section piece.  I used C  clamps to lock the pieces down and my  
1/4x20 bolts to line up the  new flange with the existing holes  
underneath.

Tomorrow
 I  will remove the clamps and take some pics.  I hope to add  
the  same 1/4 covering to the cap which is my basement.   I get the  
neoprene at a Canal Street Rubber retailer and they usually make me  buy
a wide sheet so I actually have an extra piece in my basement all  
ready to be cut for the next season.

CURIOUS TO KNOW HOW many  Rhodies DO NOT USE ANY SILICONE at ALL on the  
cap when re installing  after a cleaning and inspection???
