[Rhodes22-list] Need route advice/photo for Chris!

HI, guys,

I need some some driving info...I'd appreciate any input....;^)

I am heading to Chincoteague in 5 weeks or so for a photo weekend. Although I live only @ 75 mi almost due west of Chincoteague, the bodies of water between here & there preclude a direct route.

I can either take the northern route across the Bay Bridge at Annapolis or the southern route of the Bridge/Tunnel at Norfolk. Either way, it is about a 5.5 hr drive. I need to be at our rendezvous spot by 12, so I figure  arrive by 11 to get registered, etc.

So, here is the question:  I will leave home @ 6 AM. Going the northern route will put me on 301 through Southern MD @ 7 or a bit after. What is traffic like on 301 between Waldorf & Annapolis  at that time of day? I have made this drive several times but not at what I think would be rush hour. Then I figure from the bridge to Chincoteague  @ 2.5 hrs.

My concern taking the southern route is that traffic may be a beast on 64 due to the proximity of the shipyard & the bridge/tunnel....and that I may become so interested by the scenery that I'll drive off the bridge...;^)

Here's a photo from this Sunday's trek to the Skyline Drive looking W across the Shenandoah Valley.....from the Bay to the mountains & back in one day,,,whew!!!
