I think I mentioned this before but maybe not. I got some of those plastic Chore Girl pot scruppers and unrolled them part way, then stuck the resulting tubes in the drains as filters. The part that stays rolled keeps the tube from slipping into/down the drain.

I did it mainly because I thought small objects could roll around the cockpit sole and--oops!--end up down the drain. So far the girls keep my drains running free, as long as I rinse them once in a while.
(I can imagine situations where the girls just keep a lot of leaves & such in the cockpit and make things worse.)

I am in a slip in Gulf Shores AL. My boat has experienced extreme weather
with high winds and torrential rains but has never taken on any water. I do
check the cockpit drains for blockage each time I'm at the slip. Even small
leaves and debris can compromise the drains.
