Dave,

Congratulations and welcome!

I'd like lifelines if I had hank-on headsails.  With a furling headsail I
don't think they're worth the price--the shrouds and headstay are close
enough to each other to be used as handholds for the rare times you'd need
to go forward.

My six side ports leak.  The only two that don't are the opening ports in
front.  I quit using the covers for them because the headsail would rip them
off during tacks and the snaps eventually ripped out of the canvas because I
took them off everytime I went out.  Water sits in the ports all the time. 
Stan recommended replacing them with non-opening ports and even though mine
don't leak, it's probably good advice.

I like the idea of a traveler with a sliding car.
