[Rhodes22-list] Chesapeake Cruise planning

Mary Lou - assuming that the Dismal Swamp Canal is reopened in time, I would recommend that portion of the trip from Edenton to Norfolk. Elizabeth City is fun and then the stretch of the river from there to the Canal is really beautiful. The locks are time-restrictive, but the Canal experience is worth the time-inconvenience. On the leg from Rock Hall to Avalon, we spent a night at Bohemia Bay Yacht Club ( not our most favorite stop, but convenient for our timing). We then had good conditions thru the C & D , and upper part of the Del Bay, but ran into headwinds and chop along about the Salem Plant. We pulled into the Cohansey River and the conditions changed like magic - I forget the name of the marina a mile or so up the river, but it's the first along the west bank of the Cohansey. We overnighted there and left early the next morning to catch the ebb tide down to the Cape May Canal and thence up the NJ intracoastal to Avalon. Frone

Hi Frone,
I remember you did the trip. I'd forgotten how quickly you did it. My
goal on this trip is to visit some places we haven't been before.

What were your stops from Rock Hall to Avalon? We've got a friend
planning to do that part of a Delmarva circumnavigation (Probably RH
to Lewes) in the coming year.

And thanks for bringing up the gas issue. With a marina stop every
other day it shouldn't be a problem but still it's something to keep
in mind. We carry 7.5 gallons - 2 3 gallon tanks and 1.5 gallon can as reserve.

Dismal Swamp Canal would be interesting. It's closed right now (at
least until March) for lock repair.

Mary Lou
