Nearly all of my singlehanded sailing is done with the tiller loosely locked
into place.  If I need to make an adjustment I just give it a slight push.

I see your extension clamps to the stern railing.  I'm going to have to take
a closer look at my extension.  I think mine might be the same, but never
tried it. - rob

Dear Rob,
Thanks for the great photos.  That is the first time I have seen the rudder
up close with the tiller arm on it.  If you were building a new one what
length would you make it?  Would it also have an attachment to extend it and
be able to secure it while going forward to tend things of reach in the
cockpit?

It could be factory.  Here is a couple of pictures from my old '76.  I know
my set up works because I sailed with it.  Looks like yours has some
modifications, but close enough. - rob
