Interesting solution. But the new R22s have a 6 gal gas tank under one seat & I'm not sure there's room for the hatch. Maybe. I'll give it a try. 

My dog likes to hunker down under the other--sleeps in his own lifeboat, which is in fact a blue kitty-litter pan--and I'm sure the hatch would worry him.  Carlos is a long-haired Chihuahua I found for my mother at animal rescue. Never imagined this little desert dog would like sailing, but he loves it.

Attached is a storage idea for the hatch that works for me, it might also be
useful for others.  You might have to hit "View" and then "print layout" for
it to look right.
