[Rhodes22-list] making pop-top more secure (not more water-tight)

For the most part, sail boats, especially 22 footers hold very few things
of value in the eyes of a thief. I kept mine in a marina for fifteen years
and never had a problem while all the boats around me had their batteries
and fishing gear and fish finders removed. I never had so much as a gallon of
gasoline go missing. Securing the pop top might encourage extreme damage
to the fiberglass. I'll let others chime in, but I wouldn't worry about it
to much.

A related question: I've found it all too easy to jimmy the pop-top open,
even with it locked and with Stan's tie-down to a clam cleat as taut as I
can make it. Has anyone come up with more/better security?

Mike,
I amazed at the amount of pine needles that get into my cabin. I can
understand some water blowing in but not pine needles.
I'm not sure if I would want to make my cabin too airtight. I've always
thought that my loose poptop seal might help keep the cabin aired-out
enough
to prevent mildewing. For extreme waves and hosing a bunch of towels as
temporary seals might work best.
