[Rhodes22-list] Bottom Paint

The Trinidad Petit bottom paint I use holds up pretty well and I have been
giving the bottom a light sanding each season and applying  a fresh coat of
bottom paint.  No pealing, no blistering, no growth.  This will be my fourth
season, three seasons/coats of bottom paint over the original factory bottom
paint.  At what point do I need to worry about removing all the old coats of
paint?  What is the harm of just leaving what remains after each season and
applying  a fresh coat so long as it adheres well?  Am I adding a lot of
weight to the boat bottom?
