The electric lift will handle the 100 pound 4 strokes most people are
getting these days. I wouldn't get anything less than an 8hp. Winds and storms
make that extra horsepower a real life saver at times. I can go hull speed
(about 6 mph) at 2/3 throttle with the 8hp two stroke. At full throttle it
burns one gallon per hour.
I've sailed Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.

Soon to be owner here. I had inquired about motors a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for the helpful replys. I like the propane outboard made by Lehr.
Seems real clean. It has many advantages except it is relatively new, so
not much of a track record. Any first hand experience from anyone? 5 horse
is the most powerful made right now. I am not sure if that is enough (for
any outboard) for day to day use on the Great Lakes. Also, what is a
comfortable motor weight for the electric lift? Thanks all
