The size is usually stamped on the top of the hitch coupler... or somewhere
on the tongue.

If you can get a 2" ball in and it latches then I bet that's the right
size. Sounds like you just need some WD-40 on the latch... I'm pretty sure
you wouldn't get a 2" ball in a 1 7/8" coupler...
