Rob,

  I think you have the right idea. Buy the bow stop , take off the other
piece of wood,pound the two metel sides in to fit the rubber stop and
drill a hole in the metal sides to match the one in the stop,put in a
thru bolt ,add boat and go sailing. One additional thought,get the
yellowish rubber that is non-marring the bow stop.
