[Rhodes22-list] Ok to beach the Rhodes?

I have an '85.  My trailer is a 2003 Triad.  The entire weight of the boat is supported by the two o utboard bunks under the hull.  The "inner bunks" are there to align the sides of the keel/centerboard to the centerline of the trailer when loading, t hey don't touch the hull in any way that could carry weight .  The roller between the "inner bunks"carries only the weight of the centerboard, it doesn't touch the keel or the hull anywhere.

Having said this, I would consider beaching the boat under some very limited  circumstances, this might include a short period of time, on a known sandy beach wit h sufficient dropoff that the bow w ould be aground, but the keel would be afloat, with a stern  anchor depl oyed to keep the boat oriented properly and maybe help get underway when required.  I would be concerned about the state of the tide, wind and wave direction, and wakes, any of which might put the keel aground.  Note that you could use Rummy's stern grounding method equally well under these condidions with a bow anchor to help get underway.  Anchor might be more important if the water under the stern is too shallow to operate the outboard.  Finally, it is much easier to get on and off the boat via the stern ladder.

I don't have a beach like that described above in my regular boating area, so have not tried it, but I have been thinking about it since this question began swirling about the list.

My boat, when on my trailer, is supported entirely by the bunks. - rob

I'm in agreement with Hank on this. My keel is not in contact with the trailer roller and I've never seen one that did rest on it.

Rick,

Not on the Rhodes trailer.  The Bunks support all  of the weight.  Stan specifically told me NOT to support the boat by  the keel when on jackstands as the centerboard trunk is not strong  enough.
