[Rhodes22-list] Old style furler question

getting a new forestay and noticed this funny little ball sliding on the
forestay below the drum. Anybody know what this is for? My boat is a 77 and
has old school furler that is basically just an aluminum pipe around the
forestay with genoa that has a luff that slides over that tube. Thanks,
