I appreciate the feedback. Did your mast come down in a blow ? Is the screw to deck theory based on anticipating more mishaps with the self-mast raising procedure ? 
The last thing I would want to worry about if caught in a blow is a mast flying off the cabin top. It may save more extensive damage to the cabin top but kill a crew member or passenger or the skipper. It would take a whole lot more force for the mast to pull through two layers of fiberglass, core material reinforced with epoxy. It might even save a dismasting.
