[Rhodes22-list] retirement

I looked up "Haiku" on the internet. My god, there are reams of material,
hundreds of years of history, books, professional journals, you name it. I
feel I have been so ignorant. So, here goes my first attempt:
Looked it up
Big mistake
New life begging
Can I quit now?

Great poem. Now I need to find out what a Haiku is - which makes my point
about retirement giving you the luxury of being busy without having to be
efficient.

Hi:
As a recently retired septuagenarian psychologist and now what my daughter
calls 'fun-employed', I have a slightly different take on retirement. I
agree that reduced efficiency demands are part of it, but I also think that
many are shifting from 'sustenance' work (what you do to eat) to 'leisure'
work (what you do for fulfillment). This can be startling. In my case, I
left a job doing complex statistical analyses and now find myself composing
Haiku poems all the time. It is as if the poetry writing aspects of my life
had been put on hold in service to sustenance. Here is a sample some may
enjoy
memories ebbing
on the shifting sands of time
what was I saying?
Cheers,
Shawn
