[Rhodes22-list] Rudder attachment

Mary Lou,
Interesting thought, might have to take a closer look at my rudder.

You do give me pause, though. There is evidence that the PO whacked the heck out of the stern on something at one time. When I got the boat, one of the blades of the prop (aluminum) was broken and the impeller of the motor was full of sand. Makes me wonder if they didn't do something to the rudder and this was their repair. I don't know if the rudder is too close to the boat, but the boat does not track correctly. Seems to want to wander to starboard when she should be pointed forward. - Rob

Rob,

That doesn't look standard to me.

Ours (on a 91 boat refurbished in 1998) is a standard gudgeon & pintle system.

I think you may have the original fittings on the transom but the rudder doesn't look right. It looks almost as if someone cut off the gudgeon. Does your rudder seem a little close to the boat?

See: http://www.rigrite.com/Hardware/Rudder_Hardware/Pintles&Gudgeons.htm

Can't get a pic of ours now - maybe some else can.
