[Rhodes22-list] Rhodes22-list Digest, Vol 3339, Issue 1

Is it possible something was amiss with your lowering technique
(pop-top slider not raised, sliding hatch not closed, etc.) - that
something applied excess force as you lowered the mast? If the mast
plate had been bolted as you proposed, it would likely have ripped a
hole in the top of your cabin. Those three screws are meant as a easy
failure point so you don't seriously damage the boat. The only time
we've ever had an issue is when we forgot to close the sliding hatch
and the mast used that as a fulcrum to pry up the step. It was an
easy fix. We reseated the screws in the holes with some epoxy - I
think - it was a while ago. No problems since.
