Richard,
DO NOT THRU BOLT THE MAST STEP. Unless you want to remove the cabin top
from the hull. As others have stated. Fill holes with epoxy and tooth picks.
Re drill holes and use new stainless screws. They do not need to be larger.
If you think the step screws came out to easily, you might want to check
for rot in that area. Drill a couple of small holes to determine if the deck
is solid or rotten. The holes can easily be filled with epoxy and repaired
with gel coat kit. IF you have rotten decking, that's a completely
different fix, but can be done economically.

Does anyone have a fix for out R22 mast step which ripped out of the deck
when we were using Stan's mast lowering system? It let go when the mast was
about 2/3 of the way down which is where the greatest horizontal force is
put on the mast step. I found the mast step was held in place by 3 screws
which is fine for resisting the vertical force ( vector ) while the mast is
standing but not so good when lowering or raising the mast. This is an 88
model partially refurbished in 98. I'm thinking of through drilling the deck
with ss bolts and putting a plate on the underside of the deck, assuming
the bolts won't interfere with the mast support which is below the mast
support and down to the keel.

Only the heavy wet snow will stick but it is easily brushed off w a push
broom. Easy for me as the boat is in my yard. Large tarp hangs over the entire
boat & is bungeed to the trailer all around. 2 bungee removal allows access
to go aboard.

suggestion is cut a 4x4 and support the mast in the middle in the mast to
deck bracket. I also pull the spreaders out of their mounting brackets. I wrap
and lay them on the cabin top still attached to the shrouds. This way,
heavy snow on the tarp won't bend them or the brackets.

the mast. Here is the finished product. I closed the back using bunggie
cords so I can climb in the back. It also should allow for ventilation. I also
used bunggie cord under the trailer to keep the tarp tight and away from
the hull as much as possible. I also decided to take the batteries out and
store in my warm garage with a trickle charger. I am hoping global warming
will really kick in this year so I can start sailing in April versus June!

Only the heavy wet snow will stick but it is easily brushed off w a push
broom. Easy for me as the boat is in my yard. Large tarp hangs over the
entire boat & is bungeed to the trailer all around. 2 bungee removal allows
access to go aboard.
