Since the wood is pressure treated, it may (will) shrink away from the keel as it dries, leaving room for the carpet. And, with a little whittling, there could be more space.
But what if while you are out cruising, rain soaks the bunk and swells the wood too far? Or you drive through lots of rain and can't get the boat off the trailer?
Too close for comfort.
