All,
Thanks for the advice with the whisker pole. Thursday I was able to get
out and hit my hull speed of 5.3 knots going wing-on-wing. Once i started
using the Whisker pole that came with the boat, I found someone had put a
red mark on the pole on how far to extend it. Once I got it out, and got
the wind behind me, I was flying... though the 170 roller furling genny is
a heavy sail to fly like that.
I also noticed about a knot slowdown if I had the centerboard down (forgot
at first).
Another question, somewhat related, when i'm single handing... it looks
like the best I can do for tacking up wind is about 100-110 degree tack
angle. Center board is down, I don't think I can fly the 170 inside the
shrouds as its too long, and the sail would hit the spreader. I'm using my
poor man's "rope" traveller, but still able to get the boom on the
centerline... but can't improve the tacking angle any further. Any
suggestions?
