I'm trying to find the limits of my '79 rhodes. I can easily get it up to
5.25 knots on a beam in ~8 knot true. I find the boat has about a 100
degree tacking angle with the jib tacked outside the shrouds.
My biggest issue, is in the aforementioned wind, I can't seem to get above
a 1 knot dead downwind speed. It appears the boat came with a ~150 - 170%
genoa (I havn't done the actual measurements and the previous owner said it
was a 110 of which it definitely is not). The boat also came with a
whisker pole, but I can't figure out how to set the pole between the 3
shrouds.
Additionally, I can't figure out how the previous-previous owner used the
whisker pole as there doesn't appear to be a proper foredeck topping lift
or downhaul.
Any suggestions?
