Love that story! Maybe that's how my pigeons gained entry as well, however, blocking the pockets seemed to do the trick...
  my next problem soon surfaced however....being new to the north shore of L.I. , and new to mooring I was not prepared for the havoc that gulls and cormorants can wreak on a moored Rhodes "island". The mess,  the smell...omg no obstructions to these beasts, I tried everything I could without having to lower the mast....pinwheels, CDs , little round mirrors glued to plastic deli containers hung about... Took an hour and a half to clean BH before I could sail...next season, strung thin ss wire above spreaders and mounted an aluminum plate with 20 super sharp 3" ss sheet metal screws pointing skyward!  Aah...battle won. Never had that problem when my boat was in a slip in the south shore...
