That all sounds good.
My ‘ferrule blocks were in good condition so I left them alone.
The I had two eye straps with thru bolts - It was ugly.
Here is a photo of what was. 
I don’t have an after photo, but I used the proper size with SS lock nuts and rubber washers on both sides.
I don’t think it will leak. If it does, i’ll glass over the top.
