Curtis,
I bought an '83 Rhodes 2 years ago with an electric start 9.9HP Johnson
Sailmaster for $3,000. Note that this vintage does not have the furling
mainsail which is one of the reasons the Rhodes is so easy to singlehand (&
so expensive) Without an outboard, I would pay no more than $2,500 and
would push for even less. Price appropriate used outboards in your area so
you know what it will cost you. You can probably get a new long shaft 6HP
Tohatsu for $1600 or so. Since I was able to salvage the IMF mast from my
hurricane totaled '87 I now have the best of both.
Don't worry about the sink connection. Mine was tubed to a gallon bottle
and would not drain as it was not vented. Some plastic drain parts and
tubing from Home Depot allowed me to rehook up the above water line through
hole for under $20. A new mainsail cost me just under $600 custom made from
Doyle in RI.
Looks like a very nice older boat. The pics show no sign of the mast mount
droop indicating a rotted deck. Negotiate hard and enjoy your sailing.

All,
I'm currently boat-less, and looking to purchase a boat. I found a '79
Rhodes 22 for sale ($3000) on Craigslist. Its been listed for at least a
few weeks, and the price has come down at least once.

What are the things that I should look for? This would be my first boat,
i've only got about 20 hours logged solo, another 20 as crew on various
boats. I'm not looking to pickup a project, just a trailerable boat that
will let me easily solo every so often, and based on reviews the Rhodes 22
looks easily solo-able.
