John,
First, welcome to the club! You're in for a treat when you get your boat. It's the best thing since sliced bread. IMHO.
I had many of the same questions last year when I got my boat. I went with a Tohatsu 9.8 20inch and I changed the prop to the "high thrust" prop. Not sure it made too much difference but now I have a backup.
If I had to do it again, I'd go with the tohatsu 8hp. The 9.8 may be overkill, however the extra HPs never hurt. The extra weight isn't a factor so far.
You can't beat the price of the tohatsu and internet retailers will include shipping to Stan. Stan did a nice job mounting the motor and getting it all setup.
