Hello all,
Just trailered my "new" Rhodes 22 from CT to home (Cambridge, MD on Choptank
River - mid-Chesapeake Bay Eastern Shore) and want to launch it tomorrow.
It's a 1986, recycled in 2006 with IMF and 175% roller furling jib. I'll
provide more details later but really want to get it launched and do a
little sailing before serious winter weather hits.
Launch question: We have very nice boat launches here in Dorchester country
and I plan to use a fairly new one with floating docks and nice ramps. Do I
need to use the 8 foot extender for the trailer to launch? Or can I just try
it without extending? I'm using a Toyota Tundra truck with 4WD and figure I
can back it until water is a few inches up on rear tires. I really don't
want to get the rear brakes wet with our brackish water.
I have the mast crane system and have read and re-read the instructions
numerous times and believe I'm ready to go. I've used mast raising systems
on a San Juan 21 and a Farrier trimaran - F-27 and will pay very close
attention to how each set of shrouds is handled.
Motor is all hooked up - just need a gallon or so of fresh gas.
Weather will be 60's tomorrow and not too much wind for launch and a first
sail.
I've known I was going to buy this boat for a month but there were various
delays and missed out on some gorgeous fall sailing. Can't wait to get
going. I'm so impressed by all the cool features.
