I have a Garmin fish finder with a "thru hull" transducer that just surface mounts to the inside of the locker and has worked fine providing proper depth information.

If I buy a chart plotter that comes with a transom mount transducer, can it be mounted on the transom or is it better just to mount it on the inside of the hull in the locker?
