Also, try holding a little tension on the outhaul when furling to get a tighter wrap on the furler.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] IMF issues or new mainsail?

Hey folks, I hope everyone is ready for spring! I'm not sure if you'll remember but a while back I posted some questions about issues with my IMF. I am continuing to have an issue pulling out the sail despite following your advice to the T. I ensure that I'm on a port tack with the boom slightly to starboard and the boom slightly lower when I furl the sail. The sail has no issues furling, but pulling it out is a different story. It tends to get bunched up on the lower part of the sail when I am pulling the out haul. This requires me to go forward and give the sail a few tugs and push in the extra material that tends to get bunched up in the lower part of the mast.

I am guessing my mainsail is just old and blown out. Could this be what is causing my issues? You can see in the attached picture that the top of the sacrificial cloth is further in the mast then the bottom. Is this indicative of an "blown out" mainsail that requires replacement?
