Loose battery connections can easily burn out a lift motor as well as other
devices on board. If your battery(s) came equipped with wing nuts, throw
them away and get some stainless nuts with lock washers. I've discovered
over the years that the wing nuts don't stay tightened.

It was the batteries. And the strap was loose. And the contacts were a bit
corroded. And the electric winch may need replacement. Aah a lesson in
battery maintenance and related conveyances.
