The one time I really flooded my cabin was when the boat was on dry land. I
left the boat uncovered for the winter. snow built up above the cockpit
seats and when it melted in the spring the water poured into the cabin. I
never leave the boat uncovered over winter now but this points out that a
boat is really a big bucket that holds water once it gets in and there seems
to be a thousand ways for that to happen. 

I installed a bilge pump just in front of the centerboard housing cap and
discharge the water through it's own thru-hull - well above the waterline.
Make sure you have a high loop in the discharge tube so that water will not
siphon into the boat - another way to easily fill the boat with water.

Bob,

I put one in when my boat was going to be sitting in a slip. The bilge is
bone dry, so it never has been used-- yet. She is on a lift now so it's not
much of an issue. 

For the life of me, I could not figure out how to run the drain tube over to
the sink drain. So for now the tube goes out of the cabin sole and over to
the sink. I really need to figure out a better way to run the discharge.
