Yes, Slim had his repairs done at a boat yard and he is no longer on the list. I did a similar repair myself. The backing material that I used was just plain old 1X4 lumber and I used epoxy to hold it in place. Instead of steel screws, I used plastic. My rational was I wanted to screws to shear before the blocking material pulled through. I've since sold that boat but as far as I know, the repair has worked.

I think that Slim had those repairs made at a boatyard and he is probably no longer on the Rhodes list. Rob Lowe made similar repairs and is still on the list, I believe. Maybe he can recall the materials.
In any event, I highly recommend the purchase of Don Casey's great text entitled Sailboat Hull & Deck Repair (hardcover, 1995) ISBN:0070133697 before attempting such work on your own.
