A word of caution regarding going (diving) into the water to free the centerboard especially in fresh or brackish water. Don't do it unless away from the dock and shore.  Let me explain why.   There is a potentially deadly  hazard that has finally been recognized and labeled called electric shock drowning.  You can Google this subject and get a comprehensive list  of data and specific accident reports but suffice to say, stay out of the water in marinas and the recommended 100 yards away from 120 volt AC power sources.  This includes boats with shore power, boat lifts, dock receptacles, generators, inverters, etc.  120volts and higher AC voltages have proven to be deadly.There are no documented accident reports in salt water as that water is more conductive than the human body but not so in fresh/brackish water.
