Hi Bob,

Sounds like you had similar but different stuff. This comes as a sort of
tape - about 1/2 inch wide and quite thin. It's rolled up with something
like wax paper to keep it from sticking to itself - about 8" in diameter -
enough for me forever - and I keep pulling off 6" or a foot to give to
people. I've had it for 3 years and hasn't changed.

Note again: He says it's definitely NOT for below waterline.

You just pull off a small amount - it stretches till it breaks. Then roll it
around in your hand and mash it around base of fitting or screw. It never
"sets up" - always pliable and a little sticky. You'll invariably use too
much and it will squeeze out. Can lightly score with a small, not too sharp
knife blade and pull away. Clean up any residue with mineral spirits. He
said he has a jib track installed for something like 30 years and 30,000
miles of ocean and never leaked. He's pulled things off after 10 years and
it's still pliable and sticky.

If you find that article, he explains so many things so well with lots of
high quality close up pics. Two biggies: 1) make a little cone at top of
your bolt hole so lots of butyl around top of bolt and 2) Have someone hold
bolt so it can't turn and someone else tighten the nut.
