Rake is not the same as bend. You can rake (tilt) the mast back a bit 
by lengthening the forestay and tightening the backstays. Do it too 
much and you'll have problems with the in mast furler even though the 
mast doesn't bend. On some rigs the mast is actually designed to bend 
but not a Rhodes 22.

There is some explanation here. I'm not an expert but this sounds 
right. Ignore the third principal about mast prebend.
