We have a Yamaha that has performed flawlessly since we started using
non-ethanol gas. We went with the Yamaha because of the ease of
using the flushing port. Because we keep the boat in a slip in salt
water we like to flush the engine with fresh water after every use.
This is after a previous Honda died due to salt build up and
corrosion in the cooling passages. I believe the newer Hondas have a
flushing port but I think you still have to remove the cowl to get to
it (at least you did 6 years ago when we were looking for a new
engine.) The Yamaha's port is accessible and all you do is attach a
hose to the port near the top of the engine. If you are not in salt
water (or even if you are and don't keep the boat in a slip) this may
not matter.
