[Rhodes22-list] engine replacement

Hopefully it is practical to repair your Yamaha. I have an 8-hp, manual start, long shaft which I find has plenty of power for the Rhodes. Bear in mind that if you are considering the 8 hp Yamaha, you will need to add the expense of a voltage rectifier if you want it to charge your batteries. The electric start 8 & 9.9 hp engines come equipped with this. Don SimonsIthaca, NY

I also have the Yamaha and enjoy the easy access flushing valve, flush after each use and I also run the engine out of fuel after each use.

We have a Yamaha that has performed flawlessly since we started using non-ethanol gas. We went with the Yamaha because of the ease of using the flushing port. Because we keep the boat in a slip in salt water we like to flush the engine with fresh water after every use.
This is after a previous Honda died due to salt build up and corrosion in the cooling passages. I believe the newer Hondas have a flushing port but I think you still have to remove the cowl to get to it (at least you did 6 years ago when we were looking for a new
engine.) The Yamaha's port is accessible and all you do is attach a hose to the port near the top of the engine. If you are not in salt water (or even if you are and don't keep the boat in a slip) this may not matter.
