Yesterday my wife and I visited the Pine Island Marina in Groton, CT. It seemed nice enough; not gold plated, but functional. We took home a mooring rental contract, and we’ll be mailing it back to them with a check in the next few days.

The ‘early bird’ price for boat with a draft of under 3 feet is $35 per foot. The full price is $40 per foot. So $35 x 22 = $770.

One of the interesting features of this marina is that it is right next door to a state boat ramp. The marina website mentions that they offer on trailer boat storage for people using the state ramp for launching. Thinking that this might be a less expensive option for me next year when I have a truck to launch with, I asked about the price. I can’t recall the exact figure, but it was a bit over $1000. So not only would it cost more money, but there’s an overhead power line between the marina and the ramp, so I’d have to step the mast every time as well. Such a deal! Maybe I’ll learn to love the mooring.

We’ve decided that one way or another we will make the trip to Edenton to pick up the boat. We don’t want to miss out on the full orientation course offered by Stan. (Thanks Richard for offering to help.)

Here’s a question I asked Stan, but haven’t gotten a reply yet: for those of you who picked up a boat at the plant along with a new-to-you trailer, how was the trailer registration handled?

Thanks,
