I am setting a mooring for my Rhodes this spring. It is a short row from a nice public boat launch.
No fees. Totally legal. I have about $275 in my mooring gear.

>> I can see some benefits to a mooring, but I can also see a lot of benefits to having my boat sitting in my driveway when I’m not sailing it, rather than sitting on a mooring. But I have few options until I get my truck back, so for now, it’s a mooring life for me (sung to the tune of ‘it’s a pirate’s life for me').

>> As to the launch service, the marina has one of course, but they make it clear that service levels are higher during weekends. Since I’m retired and can sail when I choose, my plan at the moment is to pretty much avoid sailing on weekends. One of the reasons I chose Pine Island Marina is that it’s located in a fairly small harbor, so the mooring can’t be very far from the dinghy dock.

>> Managing the dinghy at the dinghy dock or dinghy rack is something else that I'll have to figure out. I bought a used Walker Bay 8 over the winter. When I brought it home, it looked kind of nasty, but it cleaned up nicely. I think these are pretty popular, so it’s not unlikely that there will be more than one hanging around the marina. One looks pretty much like another, so it has occurred to me that it might be a good idea to put a name on the transom of mine. After a bit of consideration, I’ve tentatively decided on ‘One Ringy Dinghy’. I don’t know how old you have to be to get the reference.
