Your best bet is to get a digital multimeter from Harbor freight ( under
10 $). If you set up the meter like the picture that I hope to attach at
the bottom,the test goes as follows. Put the red test lead on one wire and
the black test lead on the other wire. If the display reads 12 volts, the
positive wire is on the red lead. If the display reads -12 volts the
positive wire is on a the black lead. You can also use this tester to keep
track of your battery charge,test fuses,and find out how many amps a
circuit is drawing. Never check voltage with the positive lead plugged
into the top hole marked 10 ADC.
