[Rhodes22-list] Long Road Trip - aft strap tiedowns

This last post raises the question of whether the boat should be strapped down at the aft when being towed. A few years back this question came up and I was surprised to see that a number of experienced Rodies were adamant that straps should not be used citing all sorts of horrible things that might happen. However, in the video that Peter posted a few weeks ago of him picking up his new boat at  the factory I noticed that straps were being used. That settles the debate in my mind. I am going with the straps.

I agree with Patrick - leave the motor in the up position on the bracket and add a line to the aft rail for extra support. Have towed many Rhodes 22 miles like this and not had a problem. Besides you'll probably do more damage to your motor trying to get in on/off the bracket

I prefer to strap the boat down on the trailer as well
