David,
Do you have the standard main or IMF?  It does make a difference.  As noted, the standard main can be lowered by hand if need be.  I've used the boat trailer wince attached to a halyard as an assist.  The IMF most certainly requires a mast crane assist.  Have any photos or you set up?  Photos always help. - rob
